Beat The Winter Blues In Lanzarote

Tucked away in a group of islands known as the Canaries lies a little pearl called Lanzarote which has been an oasis of warmth for those people trying to escape the freakishly cold weather and snow conditions encountered particularly in much of the UK and Scotland so far this year. And unless you do not know your geography it’s easy to see why, because the daytime temperatures at the start of the season is often hotter than some of the rest of Europe’s spring and summer temperatures. Nor is it just a question of warmer weather but there are also longer daylight hours as well. The sun never sets earlier than 18.00 even at the winter solstice. Making it a sure fire winner for those who experience the blues in winter.

The quality of the air on the island is also a major benefit, as the lack of atmospheric pollution bathes Lanzarote in a very favourable light which many photographers delight in. And with a good variety of volcanic landscapes and pretty, unspoilt rural scenes, there is plenty to capture on film.

The comparatively unchanged features of Lanzarote´s scenery is credited in great measure to the work of locally born artist César Manrique, whose guiding philosophy of working with nature was adopted as the island developed its tourist industry. This also introduced a degree of restraint in the construction of hotels and apartments to maintain the island’s character. His legacy remains in place, with seven highly individual tourist attractions still open to the public as well as his own former home. Many visitors to Lanzarote are immediately captivated by his designs and touring the various Manrique centres can become the focus of the holiday.

The manageable size of Lanzarote means that tourists can get out and see much of the island even in a week. Which is something that increasing numbers of people arrange for themselves, whilst being based in some of the beautiful Lanzarote Villas as the ideal base to set out from.

Accommodation of this type can be easily found in the oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen, where the villas all have private pools and many creature comforts that cannot be found in a hotel. They also provide far more peace and tranquillity as well, especially outdoors.

Just as viable for those who like to get out and explore their holiday destination are the many Lanzarote holiday apartments that offer communal facilities such as a swimming pool and sunbathing areas. This type of accommodation is ideal for those who dislike the regimentation of hotel dining rooms and prefer to come and go as they please.

Quite apart from the attractions designed by Manrique, there are plenty of other places worth visiting on the island not least, some of the nearly ninety beaches, or the vineyards on the edge of the volcanic region.
