NYC’s Most Recommended Museums For Tourists

New York Hotel Deals

Its wonderful collection of fantastic museums is one of the many things New York is well known for. The most well known Manhattan museums are the art museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Guggenheim, but in addition there are many other types of museums like the Natural History Museum and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.

Below you will find a quick summary of each of the five museums I just mentioned so that you can find out which of these museums you want to visit while in New York. Entry to all of these museums is a feature of the NYC Pass.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art – This enormous museum is often referred to as just “The Met” and while it’s primarily a museum for art it is also much more than just that. It’s a fantastic place to check out for anyone who is interested in history. The biggest negative with museum is also its biggest positive; it’s so huge that it can be a little bit overwhelming. It’s impossible to really see it all in a single day.

The Museum of Modern Art – This museum is focused on people who are really knowledgable about modern painters. It features artwork by Van Gogh and Picasso. I would say that this museum is probably not as “kid friendly” as the other museums listed here. If you have little ones they may squirm.

The Guggenheim Museum – Because of its quite unique architectural design the Guggenheim is probably more famous for what it looks like than its art collection. It was built by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959. It’s definitely worth getting a ticket and going inside and seeing what it looks like from the inside. It is not as much of an overwhelming experience as the MoMA and the Met.

The Natural History Museum – For a majority of people this is probably the NYC museum they would most enjoy. It’s not only that it’s very “kid friendly” but that I believe it’s interesting to a larger group of people. I just do not see how anyone cannot be curious to see a dinosaur’s skeleton with their own eyes. It’s amazing to stand next to these enormous skeletons.

Madame Tussaud’s – This is a very “kid friendly” type place. Your young ones will probably really enjoy seeing wax versions of famous people (both those who are still alive and those who are no longer among the living.) It’s pretty fun for adults as well. This is a good choice if you’re in the mood to be playful rather than be thoughtful.

Regardless of whether you want to visit any of the museums listed here or not, you should certainly make use of the New York City Hotel Deals site to find the best prices on hotel rooms in New York City.
