2. Unlimited minibar. I do not know how dispersed this practice is, but both hostels we stayed in offer all-you-can-drink minibars with lager, water and sodas. No major alcohol or wine. You drink. We fill it up. Bizarre, but true, related the hotel check-in person.

t3. The sites : Coliseum, Vatican, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain. You’ve heard about them for years . They’re better in the flesh. And if you book an Apartamento Roma for sure you are going to explore and luxuriate in the city.

4. Meat. Italians know how to cure beef.

5. Coffee. Starbucks does not hold a candle to the folks that invented the word cappuccino.

6. DK books. Totally the very best.

7. Bullet trains that go 2 hundred miles an hour.

8. Art and history. Although too much of a good thing can be too much.

9. Travel off season. Avoid the crowds. Avoid the heat. Bring an umbrella. We were given into the Vatican Museums with no line and were at the Sistine Chapel in a timely manner with few bottlenecks.

3. Beggars. Instead of saying grazi they assert more.

4. Shortage of holiday maker destination signs. They are never there when you want them.

5. Pizza and lasagne. You can do better in the states. Avoid cheapo bistros.

6. Purchasing pizza by the pound, not the cut. Do you truly want to understand that you’re eating two pounds of pizza? Hey, that could be an excellent idea for a diet.

London Airport Guide

Luton Airport – Luton Airport is located 56km north of London. It is a small airport (it has just a single runway airport) and it is predominantly used only by budget airlines flying to various destinations around Europe. As the airport is relatively far from central London, and involves going through busy areas, getting there by care or bus requires time and planning. There is a train station near to the airport though, which will get you to the city center in less than an hour.

London City Airport – Although this small inner-city airport only offers a single runway it is highly popular with business travelers destined for the financial district of London. Located close to Canary Wharf the London City Airport is just 11km from the city centre and is well connected via the Docklands Light Railway and a plethora of bus services. It is worth mentioning that planes landing here must be able to perform short take-offs and equally short landings.

Alternatives to the 5 London Airports include the centrally located Birmingham Airport and Manchester Airport to the north. Both of these large international airports have very good transport links to London and the rest of the UK, meaning you can be anywhere within the country with just a few hours traveling.

Hotel Oriente in Villahermosa, Mexico is a Real Bargain

I was in Villahermosa, Mexico for one reason only: it was a midway point on my bus trip between Mexico City and the Mayan Ruins of Palenque. After eight hours in a bus, I wanted only to catch a few hours sleep before hitting the road again; I certainly didn’t need anything fancy. As with the rest of my trip, I was focused on finding the most economically priced room, but my Internet searches had turned up only pricey options, so I got off the bus and threw myself upon the mercy of the first taxi driver I found.

Hotel is located n the heart of the central business district

The driver listened to my needs and with a wave of the hand and a cavalier “no problemo,” he headed for the city center. Ten minutes later he pulled up in front of the Hotel Oriente, assuring me that it was the most affordable hotel in town, and that it was a really nice place. He was right on the money. My $28 room was sparkling clean with firm beds, newish bedding, nice thick towels, a modern ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, cable TV with remote, and even a large bottle of purified water in the hall on each floor for the use of guests.

Hotel Oriente is very conveniently located in the central business district, surrounded by shops and restaurants, with the ever popular VIPS cafe just across the street. After dinner, I climbed into bed and slept blissfully in my noise-free room, then hopped into a taxi for the quick ride back to the bus station, where I was once again on my way to the jungles of Chiapas. Though they apparently have no website of their own, rooms at Hotel Oriente can be booked through TripAdvisor and various other online services, or just show up unannounced as I did.
